The Everest of Apples Futsal Tournament brings together soccer enthusiasts from across Tohoku to participate in 6v6 futsal games. In previous years participants have included local high school teams, American high school teams, club teams, and Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) teams.
The tournament is held in the luxurious Aoi-mori Arena in Aomori-shi. Completed in November 2003, this sparkling new sports complex houses three futsal courts in the main arena, a secondary arena, professional weight training room, swimming pool, restaurant, and inexpensive sleeping facilities. Everything one could need for a quality day of soccer.
Futsal is a fast paced, indoor version of soccer. The game is played with six people to a side on basketball court sized courts with smaller balls and goals than a standard soccer game. The tournament itself is divided into a Qualifying and a Playoff round. In the Qualifying round each team will play three games to determine the team's placement in the Playoff round. The Playoff round consists of eight teams and is structured for single elimination. The winner of the Playoff round is crowned champion of the Everest of Apples Futsal Tournament.
The 2nd Annual Everest of Apples Futsal Tournament was held on March 4, 2006. In attendance were teams from Toyama High School and Misawa Air Base High School, JET teams, and club teams from throughout the Aomori Community. After the dust settled, Regina Shichinohe was crowned the tournament champion, beating Toyama High School 5-2. Everyone walked away with a smile on their face from a day of quality competition and charitable deeds done. Financially, the tournament was also an incredible success, providing just over 20,000 yen for Prajwal School of Nepal.
The 3rd Annual Everest of Apples Futsal Tournament is scheduled to occur on April 17, 2006. If all goes as planned, this year’s tournament should provide the final installment towards the completion of the Prajwal School in Nepal and many more happy memories.

Casino Night (Hachinohe, 21 April 2007)
Kathryn Harris and Jason Johnson
Saturday 22nd April 2006 saw the cream of Aomori society dressed in their finest and attending Everest of Apples’ first annual Casino Night in Hachinohe. About 50 guests played casino classics such as poker, blackjack, roulette and monopoly in aid of the Prajwal School. Winnings were spent on drinks from the well-stocked bar and on a fine array of good and services that had been kindly donated by local businesses. We managed to raise a wonderful 120,000 yen! Looking forward to the next Casino Night in April 2007.
Monster Trivia Quiz Weekend (Lake Towada, 23 June 2007)
Melanie Surry
Following on from the success of the 2006 Monster Trivia Quiz Weekend, EofA will host a trivia weekend at Lake Towada again. Last year we had 140 people from Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, and Niigata come along. This year, we hope to have a strong showing from Akita and Hokkaido as well. The current venue can take up to around 180 people if necessary, but 140 was a good working number in 2006.
Everest of Apples Aomori Talent Show & Slave Auction,( Hirosaki, 30 November 2006)
Thanks for a fantastic Mid-year seminar and for everybody who came out and supported EofA at this year’s Talent Show/Slave Auction. It was a knock-out!
Especially big thanks are in order and rightly so to those who got onstage to display their talents, sell themselves, or stood out in the audience shouting numbers. Special thanks also go out to all who jumped in to help at the bar and those who helped set up and clean up, there were too many to name. Mika, Leo, and Matt for their help on the sound. JP for pulling a fast one to fill in as MC along with Nat and Kev. Mel, Kev, Joel and Nat for somehow convincing Courtney that they were worth 10man. Courtney for seeing them for what they are collectively really worth, 10man. Ryan for the keg, bartending and the sheet dance. That guy from CLAIR for missing a U2 concert to attend. And to Dan for putting so much of the night together!
The Talent Show/Slave Auction ended up raising 484,773 Yen (after deductions!!!), and 30000Yen of that was from the Slave Auction! That's amazing!
For EofA this really has been a big year of redefining our role as a charity, defining goals, and establishing better communication with the Prajwal School in addition to planning events. That said, it's great to know that so many people support the work that the committee (with our fearless leader Granny Smity aka Nat and accountant Dan) has put in. It's really rewarding when so many people come out, have fun and help make events like this such a success. I hope that you all had a fantastic time. Enjoy your slaves. Well done!
